What motivated you to travel on that first trip? Where did you decide to go and why did you choose that place out of all others? In early 2014, we decided to take the plunge and move to London. We'd both decided to leave a toxic work environment, and we also got married! It was a perfect opportunity to start fresh and chase happiness again. We chose London as a base because it was easy to get a work visa, and the proximity to Europe. Rachel is also obsessed with theatre, and Jeremy with football...so it was pretty perfect! We actually lived 500m from the stadium of Jeremy's favourite football team. Dedication. What obstacles and fears did you have to overcome to travel that first time? Moving to the other side of the world was a little daunting, but we were mostly just excited. Money wise, Rachel had a great contract out of town right before we left - her daily living expense allowance all went towards our London fund! We had the usual worries, about getting set up and finding a job, but were keen to go with the flow.
Sorry for the ads, but if you turn off your ad blocker then you can keep learing how traveling is possible for YOU!
Who was the most fascinating person you met on the road? What made him/her fascinating and how did you meet him/her? Right now we're in the last part of our 11 month trip around the world and have met so many interesting people! Someone who juggles, one who thinks robots are going to take over the world, another studying the tango and so many animal lovers. In Meteora, Greece we were watching the sunset and started chatting to a guy who was making a time-lapse. Turned out that it was Elia Locardi who is an incredible photographer and has been travelling full time for many years. This was the first time we'd actually met anyone in person doing this, and it totally got our wheels spinning...and here we are, 9.5 months into our first continuous trip.
What is your most treasured travel experience? Why is this one your favourite? This is so ridiculously hard. Even in just the past year we wouldn't be able to pick a favourite experience! Perhaps the most special would be getting engaged in Fiji, because you know, all that love and soppy stuff. Although we did get food poisoning there, so it was the best of times and the worst of times. So romantic. If you could travel anywhere in the world where money wasn’t an issue, where would you be and what would you be doing? In essence, describe your idea of the perfect traveling experience. So even though we're on a long(ish) trip and have seen so much, our list is growing instead of getting smaller!!! Time is something that we don't have a luxury of - we have to make every moment count. High on Jeremy's list is the Base Camp trek in Nepal, Antarctica and Russia. Rachel wants to do more of Greece, Canada and a Korea-China-Japan trip. And Patagonia! Kenya! Can we just list the whole world?
