Things to Know Before Cycling in Browns Park

  • All of this information is from one day in April. Prepare for a busier scene during high season, whenever that may be.
  • The entire road through Browns Park Wildlife Refuge is gravel. Only the actual highway is paved.
  • The gravel at the lower end of the loop turns fairly soft, so cycle this bit carefully. However, the rest of the gravel road is well maintained - again at least when we were there in April 2017.
  • There are numerous viewpoints along the main road of Browns Park that are definitely worth stopping at both to enjoy the view and to watch the many raptors soaring about above you.
  • There are two free campsites located at the far ends of the main road through Browns Park Wildlife Refuge. They both have fire rings and long drop toilets; however, the one at Swingingbridge does not have any picnic tables. If you're using these two beautful and free campsites, please camp responsibly (pack it in, pack it out; bury your poop) so that others may continue to use these sites.
